Common questions
How much are closing costs for a buyer?
Commonly about 2% to 5% of the price, on top of the down payment. They include lender fees, title insurance and settlement fees, government taxes and recording fees, plus "prepaids": the first year of homeowners insurance and a few months of taxes and insurance held in escrow.
What are Florida's mortgage taxes?
Florida charges documentary stamp tax on the mortgage note (0.35% of the loan) and intangible tax (0.2% of the loan), usually paid by the buyer at closing. That's about $1,925 on a $350,000 loan. Tick the box in the calculator to include them.
Can the seller pay my closing costs?
Often, yes. Sellers and builders frequently offer credits toward closing costs, and many loan programs allow it up to a limit. Enter any seller or builder credit to see the effect.
What is earnest money?
A deposit you make when your offer is accepted to show you are serious. It is held by the title company or escrow agent and credited toward your cash to close.
