What we collect
When you contact us or ask for results, we collect what you choose to give us: typically your name, phone number, email, city and state, what you'd like help with, your preferred contact times, and any calculator results you send. We also collect basic technical information such as your IP address and the page you came from, to protect against spam.
The calculators work in your browser. Numbers you type into them are not stored unless you choose to send them to us.
How we use it
- To reply to you and help with buying, selling, financing or your home.
- To send information you asked for, such as reports, plans or reminders.
- With your consent, to contact you by phone, text or email. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to a text, using the unsubscribe link in an email, or telling us.
Home & Money Quiz and leaderboard
When you take the quiz we keep your name, category, scores and any contact details you give, so we can send your results and show the leaderboard. The leaderboard only shows your first name and last initial (Juniors: first name or nickname). Your email and phone are never shown publicly. Adults who give contact details may hear from us about real estate and mortgage services, as described above. Teenagers aged 13 and over may give an email, used only to send their results. We do not collect contact details from anyone under 13, including all Juniors and 12-year-old Teenagers. To remove your name from the leaderboard, contact us.
Reviews, comments and feedback
If you post an HOA or builder review, a reply, or feedback about a profession, we publish your words with your initials only. Your name, phone number and email are required so every post comes from a real person, but they are kept private and never published. We may also contact you about your post and, if you agreed, about buying, selling or financing. Posts are checked automatically and may be held for review or hidden if they break our posting guidelines.
Career applications
If you apply to join us (for example as a loan officer), your application is seen only by Bill McElhill and used to contact you about the opportunity. Your current employer is never contacted without your permission.
Teachers and schools
When a teacher or group leader asks for the Home & Money Challenge sheets, we keep their name, role, school, district, work email, optional phone number and what they asked for, so we can send the sheets and follow up on requests such as a guest speaker. We only send teacher updates to those who ask for them. We never ask for or keep any details about pupils.
Your current mortgage (Rate Watch)
If you share approximate details of your current mortgage on the home value form, we use them only to let you know when refinancing might save you money. You can ask us to delete them at any time.
Where you came from
If you reach the site from one of our social media posts or links, the link may include a short tag (such as "instagram"). We record that tag with any message you send, so we know which posts are useful. It does not identify you.
Accessibility and language settings
Choices such as text size, contrast and language are saved only in your own browser. The read-aloud feature uses your browser's built-in voice; nothing is recorded or sent to us.
Children
This site is intended for adults. Our quiz and teaching materials are educational. Players aged 12 and under use a first name or nickname only and are never asked for contact details, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. If advertising is switched on, Facebook (Meta) and Google may use cookies to show our ads to people who have visited this site. You can opt out through your browser settings, your ad settings at Google and Facebook, or industry tools such as optout.aboutads.info.
Email updates
If you sign up for market updates or ask us to email your results, we'll send those emails and occasional related information. Every email lets you unsubscribe.
Chat assistant
If you use the chat assistant, your questions and the automated answers are saved so we can follow up and improve the service. Please don't type Social Security numbers, account numbers or other sensitive details into the chat. Answers are general information, not advice or a loan offer, and are generated with the help of an AI service.
What we never do
We never sell your information. We do not ask for, or want, Social Security numbers, account numbers or credit reports through this website. Loan applications are completed through the lender's secure systems.
Sharing
We share your information only as needed to help you, for example with the lender for a loan you apply for, or, if you are buying or selling outside our area, with a referral agent you agree to be introduced to, and where the law requires it.
Financial information
Mortgage services are provided by Bill McElhill, NMLS #2176490, through NEXA Lending, whose privacy notice applies to loan applications and is provided when you apply.
Security and retention
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information and keep it only as long as needed for the purposes above or as the law requires.
