Common questions
How does scoring work?
Each correct answer earns 10 points per level (Level 1 = 10 points, Level 5 = 50 points), plus up to 5 bonus points for answering quickly. Get a question right and the next one is a level harder; get one wrong and it drops a level. Your points from every game add up to your rank, from Starter to Legend.
Why do the questions get harder?
So the leaderboard rewards real knowledge. Returning players start at the highest level they reached last time, so there is always a new challenge.
Can I use the calculators?
Yes. Some questions include a button that opens the right calculator in a new tab, so you can work out the answer, just as you would when planning a real purchase.
What appears on the leaderboard?
Only your first name and last initial (for example, "Maria G."). Juniors appear by first name or nickname. Contact details are never shown.
Are there prizes?
Not at the moment. The quiz is for learning and bragging rights. Teachers and youth groups can download free printable competition sheets, answer keys and teaching notes from our For teachers page.
