If it is your main home, apply for Florida's homestead exemption with the Volusia County Property Appraiser by March 1 of the year after you buy. It takes up to $50,000 off the taxable value (the second $25,000 does not apply to school taxes), and the Save Our Homes rule then limits yearly increases in the assessed value.
